Long running patch failed asking for another patch

 Hi Experts,

Oracle application : R12 12.1.3

Database              : 11.2.0.3

OS                        : OEL 5.7(64)

 

What are the steps to be followed if a long running patch fails(searching mos shows the solution is to apply another patch) asking for another patch. 

Do we have quit adpatch and apply the other patch and start the long running patch from beginning?

Is there a way to save the current status of the first patch, apply the new patch, restore and continue with the first patch?

MOS Note 863825.1 points to the 175485.1(How to Apply an 11i Patch When adpatch is Already Running) but searching on MOS is not giving  the specifed note.
