Business case: Customer will not part number & Serial number at SR/RO creation

Hi Folks,

Heres the business need.

Item is sold by some OEM.

Customer is in  service business fo those items. Item must have been 20 year long so part number.serial number erased out.

when creating the SR/RO, no body knows those info except  model of an item. But client has a definite chance of knowing the part number "after receiving &dismantling".

 in ERP, we need to make process for receiving and dismantling only with knowing the model.

Not sure how we handle this case through depot. let me know if anybody has addressed this type.
