Can location segments by updated via script after asset is associated with location?

 We are in the process of implementing fixed assets on R12.1.3 and we are using hr_locations_all for validating the location key flex field segments.   We have an external system that updates hr_locations_all when rooms are renamed.  Room is one of our segments in the location key flex field.  Once an asset is associated with a  location, can I via script update the segment?   If not, I was thinking I'd have to disable the current location via script, then create a new one and somehow associate the asset to it via script.  But not sure what I'd have to
