Client Connectivity after switchover; failover

We have a single instance dataguard setup; primary on one server; standby on another server.  We are 11.2.0.3 .  We are not using Oracle Restart.

Can someone please point me in the direction of how to configure Transparant Application Failover for our clients failover .
