Software Update Stalls

I am trying to use runInstaller in graphic mode on linux x64. I attempt to apply the software updates. When I click on next, it then says it will restart the installer, but it just stalls. I have to kill it. This problem occurs in three different X terminal emulators. Exceed, Reflection X, and Xming. Does anyone have a work around to fix this? I always end up applying the patches manually afterwards which takes more time.
