After Upgrading to 11g from 8i. How do I test the database to see if the upgrade was successful?

 Hello,
This is my first time upgrading from 8i to 11g so please bare with me. I couldn't find much material on it so hopefully someone on here could tell me what I need to do. I know that I need to test sql transactions statement from the production system but not sure on how to get it out of the production database or where the log is located.
