Not getting deadlock metric email notifications

I configured a rule to enable deadlock detection but wasn't notified when I tested it.  I got the expected ORA-00060 alert log errors but recieved no email notifications.  This issue has nothing listed in the MOS knowledge base for my version of OEM (11.1.0.1.0).

I added deadlock metrics to rule "Database Availability and Critical States" which got applied with Metric Error Detection enabled and email notification checked.  I'm getting other notification from this rule but none for the newly added deadlock metrics.

Any assistance with this phenomenon would be appreciated.
