Salary Life event - Collapsing life event question

I have created a salary change life event. Everything works well, life event triggers well whenever there is a salary change on the employee.


Issue is-- it also triggers life event - on new hires. I have collapsing life events defined, where a new hire life event wins when both new hire and salary chnage life event occurs.

My question, should the collapsing rules setup, delete the salary life event before they are detected or does this happen only after we run participation process:life event.
