Close date field validation on opportunity page

Hi All,
Just want to know that currently there is one field Closed date on opportunity page which is picking value by default from opportunity created date field. I had a check on this field validation and workflows and didnt find any formulae or default values that would . May I know is this A PREBUILT FUNCTION OF CRMOD or there is some other issue.
