Collection vs Advance Collection in R12

I know that  11i Collection Workbench is now obsoleted in R12.  There is a new collection workbench in R12 with have new menu and/or forms.  During the 11i to R12  Upgrade , can we use the collection workbench in AR  without setting up  Advance Collection? I mean is the  new menu usable  without  configuration similar to Advance Collection?
