shutdown immediate takes a very long time

 Hi All,
We had a failure on a solaris cluster where the cluster was trying to stop the database instance with 
shutdown immediate that did not complete for 5 minutes.  There is no indication in alertlog or any errors
that something was wrong or not working etc during this time. What could cause such problem?
There is only one IO queue is configured could that be an issue? There was one messages that 
may suggests this:  "WARNING: aiowait timed out 1 times" but there was only one of this and happened
before the shutdown attempt. The version is 10.2.
