How to restore an individual table partition which has been erroneously dropped

Within the document [Oracle Database Backup and Recovery Advanced User's Guide, 10g Release 2 (10.2)] is a section entitled "Performing User-Managed TSPITR of Partitioned Tables With a Dropped Partition". Due to the title I assume that this only works for non RMAN based backups? Can somebody confirm that?

Furthermore it seems that this section is no longer maintained in [Oracle Database Backup and Recovery User's Guide, 11g Release 2 (11.2)].

BTW the attribute Advanced disappeared from the book's title. So I am looking for a RMAN based recovery scenario to restore only individual partitions. Partitions of the tables are spread over different tablespaces and from the second reference I notice:

Howdy, Stranger!
