Automatic Asset Numbering

We are converting asset records from 11i to R12.  We set the starting asset number at 109000, brought in 6000 asset records from 11i with the historical asset numbers intact, and then started processing assets in the R12 test instance.  The first asset number assigned in R12 was 149000 not 109000 as anticipated.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?  Are there any fixes?

We would like to keep the same numbering sequence but most importantly we want to make sure the jump in asset numbers is not a symptom of a larger problem.
