RAID-1 Vs RAID-5

Hi,

We are in the middle of configuring some entry level database servers for our medium size OLTP application
There are 8 x 300 GB drives and one RAID controller
There is no ASM

We are thinking about configuring 4 RAID-1 volumes to be used as below

1- OS/Oracle Binaries/ Swap Space / SYSTEM and SYSAUX tablespace
2. DATA and INDEX segments
3. ARCHIVE LOGS, TEMP and UNDO
4. REDO LOGS, RMAN Backups

First of all, could someone please chime in to comment on this setup and if any of the components should be re-arranged?

Secondly, one of the storage guy is adamant that we should use RAID-5. He is saying that just configure a single RAID-5 volume and use that to create partitions.

Howdy, Stranger!
