Need Clarity on Log Segments

Hi All,
This is regarding the document "How Can Users Manage the Size of the Siebel Log Files? [ID 477112.1]".

Can someone explain what is meant by "Log Segments" if possible with an example?? I couldn't find any information about this in bookshelf, I might've missed.
