Direct I/O or Asynchronous I/O

Hi

We are installing 11.2.0.3 on Oracle Linux 6 X64
We are not using ASM and the data files would be on Linux logical volumes
Underlying disks have been partitioned with RAID 1+0

In order to take advantage of direct I/O  / asynchronous I/O , what value of FILESYSTEMIO_OPTIONS parameter should we choose? What is Oracle recommendation on this ?

What is the difference between DIRECT and ASYNCHRONOUS I/O?
