PO Change API

We are using the PO CHANGE API to update Promise dates in the PO based on a flat file. The POs need to be updated and then set back to APPROVED status. When this happens, a notification is automatically being emailed to the buyer because the PO has been approved. Is there a way to stop the approval email notification for POs updated thru the PO Change API? We still want the notification for POs manually approved thru the approval hierarchy.
