adding a node to a cluster and I cannot get the new node to contact the existing cluster

on the existing cluster node I have run clsetup and allowed the new node as a potential cluster node.
I then go to the new node and run scinstall and choose the option to add to an existing cluster.

I put in the existing cluster node name,  then the existing cluster name,  but the new node them times
out in trying to contact the existing cluster node.

Any ideas?    what should the network look like?  will it allow me to do this if my existing cluster is only running on one public interface net0?
the new node makes me set to DefaultFixed,  do I need to make sure the existing node is the same?
