SSO with IIS7.5

My SSO configuration is passing the DOMAIN\USER pattern and I need just USER.  This is discuessed on Support SR "TechNote 452: Windows Integrated Authentication and SSO with Siebel [ID 489650.1]" but I cannot determine a clear answer to how to get just the USER.  I tried LOGON_USER as the varaible as well as REMOTE_USER.  This is working fine in my 7.8 environment but not 8.1.
