rolling upgrade

i have searched the samfs documentation and it is not totally clear to me (i made another employee search also before posting also).

we only have one metadata server (no primary/secondary).  in order to perform a rolling upgrade, we upgrade each of the clients to 5.3.9 FIRST, then the server last???

we don't have to umount filesystems on the server first?  (i.e.  upgrade CLIENT,, umount filesystems, pkgrm, pkgadd, mount filesystems).
