Creating a standby

I am working on a project to build a new primary-standby system using 11g database with data guard turned on to replace to one using 10g.

When I've finished setting up and building the primary, I will then move foreward to use 'duplicate target database' scripts in RM to build a standby.  However, so far, what I find out is that the folder locations and database files in the standby seems to be system generated and handled by the RM process.    They are not the same locations or same databases files names used in the primary.  I wonder if this is the way it is?
