Impact of enabling compression for redo transport

In the log_archive_dest_n parameter, if we use the parameter COMPRESSION=ENABLE, how will it impact to archive logs to be transported to standby destination? Will it compress the archive logs generated as well? Will it decrease the timing of shipping and apply rate of the gap based archive logs?Please suggest.
