R12.1.3 Shared HR Contingent Worker - How to Interface

Can Contingent Workers effectively be interfaced into an Oracle R12 "Shared HR" using the contigent worker API?  How does one differentiate between an Employee and Contingent Worker in the form PERWSEMP?  I do not expect it is possible to use contingent worker functionality with Shared HR, but I have a Developer trying to interface contingent workers form a third party system and he is trying to use the contingent worker API.  I need confirmation to make sure we are on the right track.  Thanks!
