Useful life of building

We are on 9.0 through bundle number 10.
Our Accounting department is expecting any asset added to our "building" category to be depreciated over the life of the building. The building category as define in our system is 40 years. For example, a building which came into our system say 20 years ago (1993) and is expected to originally depreciate to 2023 (40 years). If today we have a "building" asset added to the system, our Accounting department only wants to depreciate that asset to2023, and not to 2053. So basically, any "building" assets added to the system has a firm depreciate end date. I am not sure
