New poweradm lost the ability for HDD spindown

Solaris 11.1 removed the ability to control HDD spindown, or rather APM control of devices.
Any future plans to bring it back in, any thing I can do to encourage that?  Any known work arounds? (smartctl to set standby isn't quite good enough).
