DTYPE_PHONE fields

Hi,
We have ENU and DEU application on Siebel 8.1.
When we enter telephone number in DTYPE_PHONE field with characters like slash(/) or dash(/), these characters are removed in ENU application when we step off from the field.
However, in DEU application, they are retained but formatted according to formatting given in PHONE_FORMAT Lov.

Why is such difference in behavior?
Is it possible for ENU application to accept slash(/) and/or dash(/) similar to DEU application?
