Sun Fire [TM] V440 with older ALOM firmware may cause false Power Supply failures

edited May 20, 2013 11:22PM in SPARC Legacy servers (MOSC)

Oracle has seen few cases recently opened for power supplies believed to be faulty on Sun Fire V440 servers based on few factors however they are not necessarily faulty.  There is an issue with older ALOM firmware where input power "flickering" on/off can cause Power supplies to be falsely failed.
This situation is explained into the document under the new releases category on Legacy servers community by Harry Zegers on 4 March 2013:

Sun Fire [TM] V440 with older ALOM firmware and intermittent power issues may cause false Power Supply failures (Note 1531204.1)

When this type of issues is encountered it is worth checking if your system ALOM version is updated to at least 1.6 to exclude the possibility that your situation matches the one described above prior to raising a Service Request with Oracle.

Howdy, Stranger!
