What are ways to get around the 999 line limit the SFX field causes

We have invoices that contain details of more than 999 in number. In some cases, a lot more. Other than having to break our invoices up into multiple "sub" invoices of less than a thousand lines each, has anyone ever come up with another solution that has been implemented, that works well for them?
