Leasehold’s defaulting to 15 Yr. Lease hold Assets when created are not using the lease lives rather

We have a customization which calculates the life for the Lease holds. However this is getting overridden with default life when an asset is getting capitalized.
Note from Oracle: Depreciation method and life is defaulting from Asset Category and this is the intended functionality as per user guide.
Work around: Business users run few reports and then manually try to correct these assets.

Is there any other way to handle this issue of the life getting over written once it gets capitalized for Lease holds. These are all individual assets.
