change rman permanent configuration on standby database

when trying to change rman configuration i get the following:RMAN-05021: this configuration cannot be changed for a BACKUP or STANDBY control file
the configuration parameter is: CONFIGURE COMPRESSION ALGORITHM 'BASIC'

what is the best way to resolve this issue?
