Question about built-in validation on 'FS - Repair" BC / Features of CSSBCRepairs class

The client has a requirement to register Repairs for serialized products that are not linked to any Asset record on his system. But the "FS Repairs" Business Component seems to have a validation built in to the specialized class (CSSBCRepair) so that it requires a linked asset for any serializable product.

The simplest way for customer to get around this would be to change the class of the “FS Repair” Business Component from “CSSBCRepair” to “CSSBCBase”. But he doesn't know what for impact this change of business component class could have on Siebel application. He is not using the Siebel Inventory module; he is handling inventory functions via integration with Oracle EBS.
