11.2.0.3 RAC with NFS, ASM and dNFS + RAID
Hi,
We are configuring a 11.2.0.3 RAC on Linux X64 6.x with NetApp NAS using NFS
The underlying storage / drives have been configured with one RAID (most probably RAID-6) volume of 1.5 TB
We will be using ASM to store the database files, RMAN backups and OCR and Voting Disk
ORACLE_HOME and GRID_HOME would be installed locally on each machine using Linux ext3 file system
We will be using Oracle dNFS to access the NFS storage
We have some questions as follows:
1. If we were to create DATA ASM disk group of 400 GB, does it matter if from the single 1.5 TB RAID volume, the storage administrator create 4 chunks of 100 GB each as opposed to a single chunk of 400 GB? Since for ASM, the more LUNS / Chunks you use the better it is as the I/O is spread out more but does it really matter if the underlying storage consists of a single RAID volume?
