Schema Comparison does not find any valid databases

I have added host in my Enterprise Manager 12c gui and discovered databases, servers, etc targets OK and can monitor them. I would like to do a schema comparison between 2 databases but when I bring up the screen for it and hit the 'Go'  button to find a list of available databases nothing happens. If i add a database name and try to login as a user it gives me the error

'Failed to get EMTargetAuthConfigInfo'.

This looks like I have not configured something but am not sure what. I have added the required privileges into the databases invlved in the comparison. Any ideas much appreciated..
