R12.1.1 : "Out of Memory" during AD Merge of patch drivers with Master upgrade driver

Hi,

Receive "Out of memory!" error while running AD Merge of patch 7303029 & Master upgrade driver u6678700.drv.
(patch 7303029 was previously merged with pre-upgrade patches from Note 1448102.1 & then applied via "adpatch -preinstall" into $APPL_TOP/admin/$TWO_TASK/preinstall directory.)

Server has 40G of memory.  Have shut down ALL oracle-related processes on server (DBs, Listener, Grid Control Agent, Discoverer, SSO, 2 EBS apps systems) so only root-type of processes remaining.  Merge command STILL fails. 
So, I don't think it's an overall memory issue on the server - 40G should be plenty.  I suspect it's some sort of user-related, individual session related parameter or setting.
