Export VM Template guest to External Storage

Dear All Experts,
My local repository is small and i want to prevent VM guests fail or crush in anytime, so I want to convert all VM guest to VM Templates, then export out to external storage. Is it possible? If possible, can import them back without VM Manager?

Please kindly give advice for this.
