Taxpayer ID - Error Taxpayer ID must be numbers

When creating a supplier, I'm able to input a Taxpayer ID such as 75888888-9. However when I go into Tax Details and and click "Save" I get the error. Taxpayer ID must be a number. Are characters allowed in this field. I'm confused as it let me input at the initial creation but when updating or going into that screen I get the error message after I click Save. Anybody else run into this?
