Documentation support/files for Posted Journal Entries

I understand that attachments cannot be made to posted journal entries. Has anyone come up with a way to attach/associate documentation to POSTED journal entries.

We have remote users and auditors that require documentation support for entries ... however all documentation is not immediately available at the time of posting, so after-the-fact
