Are there outstanding bugs related to external FC disks?

On 3287595 it was pointed out an operation involving external FC disks that we wonder if it's introducing some subtle panic condition.

So, are there outstanding bugs related to external FC disks?
What kind of setup involving external FC disks could induce changes in /etc/system and cause booting issues?
Or what kind of care could be taken in order to not end up with an unexpected unbootable system when using external FC disks?
