Disabling an address book supplier master record

Hello everyone

We have a couple of suppliers which are no longer to be used. Apart from entering the words DO NOT USE on the AB name record, is there a way to disable or remove the supplier master short of removing it completely using SQL so as to return a hard error upon usage.
