Adding a line not upon approval of payables invoice

I have invoices that have been approved with a line note, but am unable to find them within the invoice.  I am able to see the header notes by viewing the approval history related to an invoice, but do not see a line note?  Where can I find this field when viewing an approved invoice?  Does it only appear if line level approval is setup?
