Database recovery process on Physical Standby database

Hi All,

I am using oracle 11g (11.2.0.3). I can open the Physical standby database at DR in read only mode and do select operation on the objects.

Now i want to get clarification that during the ARCHIVE recovery process at DR, can we simultaneously do select operations on the objects somehow in Oracle 11g. Is there any provision or we have to wait till we get the recovery completed for updating the DR database.

kindly share valuable points.
