Currency conversion in GL interface

Hi,

How currency conversion take place when foreign Currency transactions are transferred to GL ?

I read somewhere either we can populate currency conversion date with entered amount OR

we can directly populate Accounted amount in GL interface.

How does it take place ? Where we deifne this ?
