Usage of MDS

For our unconstrained ASCP planning, we are currently using Forecast Sets as the demand schedule. I do see the feature of MDS available in EBS and so,wondering when would MDS be used,as the Forecast set seems

to do the same job as MDS. Please clarify if it is recommended to use MDS for ASCP planning.
