ASM cluster versus single ASM instance and Flex ASM.

 Hello,

I have a question about ASM instances for single instance databases, and wonder if there is any advantage to have clustered ASM instances with the shared disks for multiple single instance databases.   I understand for RAC databases, ASM has to be part grid infrastructure and it's automatically clustered.  

If a single instance database resides in node A, and ASM instance on node A is unavailable, is the database instance still able to access the storage where the ASM instance on the other node (node is still up and running?
