Ignoring required fields on a revision step?

I thought I read a long time ago about a Unifier enhancement that allowed an assignee to send a record back to a revision step without having to complete required fields.  Does such a feature exist, and if so, where can I find the documentation on it?  
I've searched the help files, but did not find anything.  Does this option even exist for a workflow BP?  We use 9.9.1 right now.
