What is the purpose of the Inventory Asset Value checkbox on the Costing tab in the Inventory Item s

Hello
I am confused about what the purpose of this flag is, and what are the implications if it is checked or unchecked? If it is unchecked, does it mean that all inventory items will be expensed when creating a requisition against them? Or does this flag only relate to inventory items that are also fixed assets?
