ASR Manager with Proxy Server but without authentication

One of the customers having problem registering ASR manager through proxy because his proxy requires no authentication. However, when he enters only proxy server and port (without username and password) the ASR manager fails to register. Is it mandatory to have proxy server with authentication to register ASR manager?
