what is the context for Top Participants when viewing Discussions and why does ColinS have more poin

I recently noticed that ColinS has more points when viewing my "Discussions" than in total.
What is the context for Top Participants when viewing Discussions?

I know the points system has been discussed before but I do not remember any explanation where the in context number was higher than the total (but maybe I just missed that part of the discussion).
