Custom Script at Layout level (not in detail page)

Hi All,




Right now we are able to invoke java script through web applet in Object Detail page.But we need to invoke JS in Layout,So that event can be fired at the time of creation of records.
Ex.-When User is trying to create Opportunity,For any wrong entry a alert message will pop up.
Is this possible.
