Book CTO Order Before Configuring

Hi All,
We have a requirement to book the order for a ATO model, send order acknowledgment and then at a later point in time, use the configurator to configure the ATO model. Can we book the order? Our expectation is that the order will go on some sort of 'Configuration Hold' during booking, which the order team can remove once they have configured the ATO model. Is this possible? Any workarounds/suggestions?
